Our Success
ALGWA measures its success by the number of women encouraged to join Local Government. In 1951, when ALGWA was first organised, only 54 women had been elected. By December 1974 a total of 877 women had been elected in Australia, of whom 460 were then sitting members. Read More

Message from ALGWA National President - Mrs Kaele Way
Dear ALGWA Members,
Re National Rural Women's Coalition
It is my great pleasure to advise that at the Annual General Meeting of the National Rural Women's Coalition held on Saturday 11th October in Brisbane, ALGWA delegate Darriea Turley was re elected unopposed as Chair of the NRWC Council.

This Office for Women Secretariat has achieved great respect and recognition for its policy development in matters concerning the health and well being of women in rural and remote areas of Australia.

The NRWC Annual report will be placed on the NRWC web site in the coming days and I would recommend to all that you view the work undertaken by this Council over the past twelve months.

In my capacity as ALGWA's second delegate to the NRWC I have been co-opted by the Council to Chair the sub committee on Governance.

The time and effort Darriea has given to this Secretariat is enormous and it was very pleasing to see the dedication and determination recorded in the Annual Report. I am sure you will join me in congratulating Darriea on her election to a second term as Chair and in wishing her continued success in the activities of the NRWC .

Kaele
